Parveen Babi: Quite possibly one of Bollywood’s most glamorous heroines, her unforgettable character sketches in films like Deewar, Namak Halal and Amar Akbar Anthony have immortalized her in the industry. However, her life always remained part open book and speckled with controversy and part rumor. Lines between the fantasy portions and the reality of it were never clearly defined and as such, an insight into her real life would make for a particularly interesting story.
Besides her downward spiral into endless affairs with several married men (read: Mahesh Bhatt, Kabir Bedi, Danny Denzongpa etc.), a suspicious and lonely death and generally tarnished reputation strongly parallel the script of Heroine anyway. Incidentally, Mahesh Bhatt’s Arth is supposed to be a semi-autobiographical account of her life but we’d still like to hear the whole story from a more reliable/unbiased source.
vidyabalanheroineVidya Balan: In more recent times, few modern day actresses have received as much flak and adulation with every move she makes as Vidya Balan. If they’re not hating on her for her ‘traditional sartorial choices’ and labeling her ‘boring’ they’re lauding her bold choice in risque roles like her more recent Kahaani and The Dirty Picture, both of which received critical acclaim.
She’s been slandered, adored and essentially seen all the ugly faces Bollywood disguises itself in in the few short years she’s been around. She’s more than held her own but we imagine, in the privacy of her own life, these trying times must have resulted in serious drama. Plus, this is one story in which an actress actually worked hard and pulled her way up to the top again.
preityzintaheroinePreity Zinta: This may seem like an odd choice considering we see her more as a business manager of IPL teams than a Bollywood star but that’s exactly why we find that her life story piques our curiosity. Speckled with rumors of drug addiction, a high profile romance to the big businessman Ness Wadia and many other tall tales, we’re itching to know what really went on behind Preity Zinta’s closed doors.
She’s always been a starkly private person and now it seems she’s attempting a comeback into Bollywood. Madhur Bhandarkar even vaguely references her in a character in Heroine which convinces us all the more that Zinta’s life is a story that must be told.
rekhaheroineRekha: Has there ever been, or will there ever be, an actress as reclusive and mysterious as the ravishing Rekha? Wife of none, supposed mistress to many with a tumultuous childhood and a transformation from ugly duckling to beautiful swan? The rumors about her are endless yet the respect for her has never died. She remains a stark contradiction of so many things that despite having been around for as long as we can remember, we still haven’t managed to decode the divalicious beauty.
You know what they say, we never know what goes on behind closed doors let alone in people’s minds and hearts. We’d love to know what goes on in Rekha’s.

All of Bollywood’s most legendary stars have trudged through the dark trenches and shone at its highest peaks. Some more than others too.
So we got to thinking about which top Bollywood actresses’ life stories we’d actually like to know and compiled a list. We conjured it up on the basis of the ones with the most fascinating life stories, the most private or mysterious and of course, the ones who are/were just plain intriguing. Having come from nowhere to her dizzying heights of success and back down to a more understated (yet respected) role in the industry, this is one of the few ‘heroines’ we can think of who has truly seen Bollywood through and through.

From its evolution to its corruption to its little-known joys, we doubt there’s anything about the industry, this incredible woman’s life’s tale wouldn’t tell.
